UNDER THE LAW.
Mr Louis D’Souza graduated with an LLB from the National University of Singapore in 1982 and was called to the Singapore bar in 1985. In 1991, he graduated with a Master of Laws from the University College of London and also holds graduate diplomas in business law and international arbitration.
Over the course of his career spanning over more than 4 decades, Mr Louis was appointed to and held many notable positions including Senior Assistant Registrar of the Supreme Court, District Judge of the Subordinate Courts and Senior Deputy Director and Senior Assistant Director to the Legal Aid Bureau.
At the Legal Aid Bureau, Mr Louis handled numerous cases and supervised multiple generations of officers. In his own words “I became a lawyer to help people. I help the poor widow, the down-trodden and the oppressed. It is very satisfying to help people who would otherwise have been helpless.”.
At the Legal Aid Bureau’s 66th Anniversary and Award Ceremony, Mr Louis was recognised by Minister Edwin Tong SC, who said that “…everyone who has been in practice, been in the Bar, been in Legal Service, would have heard of Mr D’Souza…”.
Mr Louis is also known for dealing effectively with difficult people and has the reputation of being able to talk sense to anyone.
