Offer of composition
Depending on the nature of your traffic or regulatory offence, the ticket, summons or notice you receive may state that you are to pay a sum of money in lieu of not being charged. This is an offer of composition. If you pay this amount, you settle the ticket summons or notice without needing to appear in court.
Paying the offer of composition is also commonly referred to as compounding the offence. Payment can be made typically be made AXS kioks or via the relevant website.
Offences without an offer of composition
There are some offences where composition is typically not offered. If there is no offer of composition on your ticket, summons or notice, you will be required to attend Court. The details of your hearing will be written on the same ticket, summons or notice.
Failing to pay the composition sum
In some cases, the accused who is offered composition may forget or miss the deadline to make payment to compound the offence he committed. In such a case, he could also be required to attend Court, where the relevant punishment would typically be more severe than what had been offered as composition.
This serves therefore, as a reminder that offences should be compounded early and on time.
